Cost of Living in Hawaii
For many, the dream of living on a beautiful tropical island is, well, just a dream. Still, some have committed to besting that dream and making it a reality by moving to Hawaii. And while Hawaii will surely be an epic and beautiful adventure, take heed, it is not the cheapest of places to find yourself living.
And if you need help bringing your car or other household items from the mainland to your new island paradise, research some relocation companies that service Hawaii. We’ve shipped hundreds of cars and helped countless families make the difficult move across the pacific. Call us today about your move to Hawaii.
According to a report by Civil Beat, Hawaii has the highest cost of living out of every state in the U.S. Apparently the cost of living in Hawaii is 16-percent higher than the runner up, New York. Let’s break it down and take a look some of these costs and why they are what they are:
Incomes:
For just sheer dollar amount, Hawaii sounds like an economic paradise at first, with the median household income at almost $60k per year: which would put it ninth in the nation. However, once you factor in the high cost of living in this Pacific Paradise, you’re left with a more disappointing figure that puts it in about the middle. Similarly, the amount you’d need to make per hour just to rent a 2-bedroom house would be around $34/hour. Keep that in mind when you consider your move.
Housing:
Hawaii has some of of the most expensive property in the nation. A standard two-bedroom house can go for as much as $600,000 and condos sell for around $315,000: or about $1,600/month for a 2-bedroom.
The fact that these are islands with very real limits on the availability of space, not to mention the desire of living on the island, are all responsible for these prices being what they are.
Goods:
Consider that most of the products you will buy, outside of coconuts, papaya, and Rum, will be imported from the mainland or other countries. This means paying the most in the nation for gas, about $4.25/gallon. This means paying more for milk, about $6/gallon, and virtually anything you’d need.
You’ll have to keep these prices in mind when planning your dream island retirement.
What do NBCNews, a Batmobile and Yverdon-les-bains, Switzerland all have in common?……Schumacher Cargo Logistics!
We must admit, there have been quite a few vehicles we have shipped that have even stood out for us!
There was David Hasselhoff’s KIT replica from Knight Rider that went to Dublin Ireland for an Exhibition and the famous time travelling DeLorean from Back to the Future fame that went to a collector in Holland.
But the one that stands out the most……of course, it’s the Batmobile. Sure, it was in the films as a prop but all the same, we like to think we assisted The Caped Crusader with his International shipping needs in Heroic style!

So…what might someone want with a Batmobile? Well, Comic Con isn’t the only event for Superheroes. We moved it for a client from our facility in Los Angeles to Switzerland for the Superhero Exhibition in Yverdon-les-bains.
This was one of the production cars from the 1980’s Batman Movie starring Michael Keaton. It was purchased and restored by one of our clients who has a profound interest in all things movies.
He delivered the vehicle to our warehouse, where we loaded it into a 40’ container. It shipped from LA to Bremerhaven, with the final destination in Switzerland.

We move a lot of movie memorabilia autos and it’s amazing to think of the adventures these vehicles go on: travelling the world for movie fans alike to view in person.
It is a testament to the people who have the desire to make sure these small snippets of movie history are restored and in circulation for everyone to enjoy.

Anyone who’s ever felt the thrill of getting behind the wheel and pushing the pedal to the floor has dreamed about doing so in some of the fastest cars ever made. Unfortunately, those cars are also some of the most expensive cars ever made. And while you might not be able to afford them, it doesn’t mean you can’t stock them in your dream garage. Here are a few that should absolutely make an appearance.
And if you’ve already got some of the pieces for your dream garage, Schumacher Cargo can help you transport them overseas, either to help you test out your prized ride on the Autobahn or take a scenic cruise through Hong Kong. Give us a call today!
The 5 Most Expensive Cars To Dream About:
Lamborghini Veneno Roadster ($4.5 million dollars):
In your dream garage this car would likely go on a separate floating riser spinning in the middle of the garage with angelic lights and choirs shining down on it. It gets 750 horsepower out of a 6.5 liter, 12-cylinder engine which pushes this beast to a max 221 miles per hour. What’s more? This baby is now available as a convertible roadster!
W Motors Lykan Hypersport ($3.4 million dollars):
Talk about dream garage, if this car were in your real garage, you’d have to pinch yourself every time you see it just to make sure you’re awake. The Hypersort, out of Lebanon, looks like something crossed between a dream and a futuristic, police nightmare: like if Bruce Wayne became Robocop. It’s so cool, it’s scary. And that’s not even considering what else comes with this beast: diamond covered LED headlights, holographic speed display, and a turbocharged V6 reportedly capable of reaching 244 miles per hour.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 ($2.5 million and up):
This bad boy stocks more horsepower and a bigger engine than the Veneno and for a lower price too, which just might put this supercar in a special place in your heart. 1,200 horsepower in a 16-cylinder 8-liter engine, the Veyron 16.4 is capable of reaching a max speed of 255 miles per hour. That’s about the distance between Los Angeles and Los Vegas: meaning you could potentially come off the beach at noon and be playing craps around 1 provided you don’t run out of gas or straight road, and somehow avoid jail.
Aston Martin One-77 ($1.8 million dollars):
How could you not want for your dream garage a higher trim level Aston Martin than the one James Bond drove? While this one doesn’t have any hidden machine guns (that we know of), it does boast 750 horsepower and over 500-pounds of torque out of a 7.3 liter V12 engine.
Hennessey Venom GT ($1.2 million dollars):
A twin-turbo V8 and 1,244 horsepower make the Hennessey Venom GT just as deadly as its looks and namesake. This gnarly speedster broke a world record going from 0-186 mph (300 kph) in just 13.63 seconds. Nuff said!

It’s that time of year again. The time when the newest cars, both real and conceptual, grace the floor of Chicago’s McCormick Place and show us what we have to look forward to. Here are some of the best, brightest, fastest, and mind-blowing cars of the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.
And if you need help getting some of these beauties where they need to go, Schumacher Cargo can help. We’ve shipped cars across the globe and can help get yours to Austria or the UAE.
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4

In both speed, money, design and just the sheer fact that it isn’t a concept car makes the 2014 Bugatti Veyron the most amazing car of the 2014 Auto Show. Its quad-turbo, 16-cylinder engine has 1200 horsepower capable of going from 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds! And it can be yours for a cool $3.4 million dollars. Why not buy two at this reasonable price?
Honda FCEV
A concept car with the look of a Lamborghini. This hydrogen-fuel cell vehicle can fit up to 5 passengers and has 100 kilowatts of power to keep it running. They made a few modifications to decrease the physical size by about 33 percent while increasing power over the FCX Clarity by 60 percent!
Kia Niro
This concept SUV from KIA looks like someone crossed a Porsche Cayenne with a Volkswagen Touareg specifically for Batman. A smaller, “urban” design (less than 14-feet in length) makes this an ideal car for a city-dwelling weekend warrior that wants something that can handle rough terrain without wreaking havoc on the nature he or she is out there to explore. This hybrid has a turbocharged 160 horsepower engine that gives this compact SUV some speed.
A New Mustang, Sally?:
The next installation of the Mustang is here! Ford has redesigned their iconic muscle-car once again, this time making it sleeker and smoother! The new 2015 model features a 5-liter V8 and 420 horsepower out of the GT model.
It’s Electric!
2014 showcased a lot of different electric models from various manufacturers. KIA’s Soul EV is the company’s first fully electric car, featuring a 27-kilowatt-hour lithium battery capable of putting out 109 horsepower.
Diesel:
Diesel made a strong showing this year. Manufacturer’s from Nissan, to Mercedes, Audi, and BMW have all put out new diesel-fueled cars this year. Nissan’s Frontier tweaked their pickup design, giving this new installation 200-horsepower. BMW put the diesel technology into a sedan, though no less impressive; the new 7-series model features, 255 horsepower and 413-pounds/foot of torque!
These are just a few of the additions you might see on the roads next year if you’re lucky!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…Amazon?
A whole new method of shipping was recently announced by Amazon: Amazon Prime Air, which features, instead of large FedEx and UPS trucks, small drones that deliver your package for you, and in much less time too.
As a shipping company, Schumacher Cargo is always looking towards the horizon of new and quality shipping platforms.
We’ve shipped by rail, by air, and by sea, using trains, planes, and boats, but drones? That is a new platform indeed. Let’s take a look at just what Amazon is up to with this new Amazon Prime Air program and what it might mean for the future of shipping.
30 Minutes or Less:
What if your Amazon deliveries had the speed of your pizza delivery? Well, that’s just what the folks at Amazon asked. And they came up with a solution: small drones making the deliveries instead of a teenager in a beat up Honda Civic.
The goal, as Amazon claims, was to be able to provide customers with seriously expedient access to their purchases. As Amazon carries pretty much everything under the sun, including groceries, a customer could buy the ingredients for dinner without having to run to the grocery store, delivered fresh to their house in 30 minutes.

Not so fast, unfortunately, Amazon Prime Air is not immediately available to everyone based on a lack of FAA regulations concerning unmanned aircrafts in commercial use. It will take some time before those are put in place and Prime Air is open for business in the rest of the country. Currently only a few places out West have been allowed to experiment with the program.
There are also weight issues to consider. The drones are only capable of hauling up to five pounds for a ten-mile radius. That means that if you’re looking to ship your car you’ll still have to go the traditional route and what better place to go than Schumacher Cargo.
We might not have drones but we’ve got the staff and experience to ship most items anywhere they need to go and get them there safely.
So while this technology certainly signals that we’ve started looking at the future of shipping, for most of us, and for most of our needs, drone reliance is still a long ways off.
