Today, Damien tells us the true story of how the Sydney Opera House was built:
The Opera House was built in the ‘1950’s. Initially, it was thought that it would take 3 years and $7 million to complete. There was a world-wide competition for choosing the right architect to design it.
The winner was a Danish architect whose entry was almost overlooked, until a judge found it in a pile of designs that had already been rejected.
Building the Opera House actually took 16 years and cost over $100 million to complete- a big difference from the initial planned budget!
